Private Cellar connects wine drinkers and collectors with brilliant, often under the radar gems that you won’t find elsewhere. Our personal, down to earth approach sees our globe-trotting Master of Wine forging strong relations in the vineyards, winkling out the best quality and value in classic and modern styles, and our talented and experienced team loves nothing more than sharing these with you. It’s the reason our customers come back to us again and again: traditional wine merchanting, but better.

Private Cellar is made up of a group of friends and wine lovers who share a wish to combine our deep knowledge of wine with a more friendly personal approach to customers. We work together in an old farmhouse, not in an impersonal office and there are only 19 of us, so we know each other well. We know every single one of our customers personally too – and they know us. We don’t have to send each other emails, we simply turn our heads left or right and talk to each other.

In May 2025 we celebrated our 20th anniversary and whilst we are young, by wine merchant standards, we have many years of experience. Our senior team is made up of our most knowledgeable wine experts, including our Master of Wine, with another studying hard for the prestigious MW qualification. Many of us had previously worked together in venerable firms where we served our wine apprenticeships and were soundly trained, so we were a well-honed team from the first day we started our business in 2005.

We offer all the access, services and facilities available from the biggest companies but here you get the best of both worlds – exceptional experience and connections with the best wine growers, new wines direct from the vineyards, storage of reserves and broking – plus the advantage of being personally advised by a highly motivated group of friends who genuinely want to provide you with wines that delight and surprise.
