Tony started working at King's in 1995. When he first joined, he was employed by a contract catering company, but the school then took the catering department in-house, and Tony was appointed Second Chef. In 1998, Tony then became Head Chef - the position he held until 2017, when he then stepped down to become Catering Steward.
When asked what his fondest memories are of working at King's for just shy of three decades, Tony said: "My colleagues and our mission as a team to always provide a high standard of service to the school and functions. Over the years, I have seen many students start at the school as children and then leave as grown-ups. It has been such a privilege to be part of that journey. I have been in hospitality all of my working life, and I still have a passion for food and its presentation. I am going to miss my colleagues hugely as King's really is like one big family. I will also miss the fabulous buildings and environment."
Tony is married to Carol and they have two grown-up sons, Thomas and Matthew.
Tony said: "Carol and I are celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary and we have a few trips arranged in 2025, which we are looking forward to. I am a keen gardener so I am looking forward to spending more time there. I enjoy cycling and Pilates, and generally I like to keep myself busy. I will certainly not be a stranger to King's though as I have already been asked to come back and help at Open Days!"
Mark Hart, who is Chief Operating Officer at King's, said: "Tony is one of the most liked people I know. His positive, can-do attitude, his creativity and trying to do the very best for students and staff is to be celebrated and commended. King’s will certainly miss Tony, but we wish him a long, very happy and well-deserved retirement."
Thank you for everything Tony, although something tells us you will be back wearing your duck egg lanyard again fairly soon!
