Members of the King’s Ely community may wish to be aware that the committal of the ashes of Peggy Cinnamond, a much-valued former member of staff, will take place on Friday 27 February at 11.00 am, beginning in St Edmund’s Chapel, Ely Cathedral. She will be laid to rest with her husband, John, near the north door of the Cathedral.
Born in Dublin in 1928, Peggy read Modern Languages at Trinity College, graduating in 1949. Following her marriage to John, the couple moved to England in 1955, before settling in Ely in 1960 when he joined King’s as a junior master.
In 1970, at a significant moment in the school’s history, Peggy became the first Housemistress for girls following their admission to King’s. She later taught French across both the Junior and Senior Schools, contributing to the academic and pastoral life of the school during a period of considerable development.
After John’s death in 1996, Peggy moved to Devon, where she remained close to fellow former King’s staff, before later returning to Ely and, in time, moving to Scotland to be nearer to family.
She is survived by her son Malcolm, grandchildren Will and Elsie, and great-grandson Lockie.
All those from the King’s Ely community, past and present, who would like to attend the service and pay their respects will be warmly welcomed.
